    Editorial Review

The Wave is the flagship of the Leatherman line, and we would argue that it's the company's most versatile multitool to date. It comes loaded with 17 different tools, including everything from pliers to screwdrivers to wire cutters. We really like the Wave's quality construction, its four locking blades, and the fact that the user can get at the knife without having to open up the whole tool--a nice improvement over the original model. While nobody's going to replace a tool set or do major auto repairs with the Wave, it's absolutely invaluable for a wide range of quick, on-the-spot jobs. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars for those who value effeciency, this is a MUST!
very durable, dependable, and worth its (light)weight in gold.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice tool! Sheath not very "Deluxe".
The tool looks very useful and well made but the sheath looks like a piece of junk.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't leave the bedroom without it
I have had the wave for years now, and I have finally worn it down to where I need to get a new one. This thing has been at my side and provided me with countless experiences of being able to fix something ON THE SPOT.The weight is not too heavy at all for me. The scissors work great (I have even cut stainless steel shim with them). The pliers have been used for numerous fixes and the jaws of mine have finally worn smooth. The wire cutters have worked great. The hard wire cutter has never failed me unless I am trying to cut steel cable (a difficult task for any pair of plier-like cutters), but even then I can still manage to do it.The screwdrives have been abused yet still function very well. The blades accept a good sharpening and last for a good while after sharpening. The file is bar-none the BEST file on any multi-tool I have ever seen, and is better than most dedicated files I have used. The diamond file is spectacular. The single-handed blade opening and single-handed plier opening are features I have come to depend on.This is just a great tool that allows me to GET MORE DONE!The leather sheath is also very rugged yet quickly became supple and remains a durable home for this tool.
No, it's not the perfect tool for any one specific task, but it is a very useful tool nonetheless and serves it's purpose without fail.I am amazed mine has lasted as long as it has considering how often I use it, which is pretty much every single day.If I am wearing pants or shorts with a belt, then I have my leatherman. The only nuisance is I have to remember to pack it in my luggage prior to flying!
Worth every penny, and then some. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

As the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Makita's lightweight 9.6-volt cordless drill/driver was one of the first cordless drills on the market, and it has been the classic cordless tool for a generation of carpenters. We still like Makita's classic L-shape handle and user-friendly light weight. The tool fits comfortably in the palm and seems ideal for punching holes and driving screw after screw with efficiency. The forward/reverse switch sits on the top back corner of the drill, so you can't "click on the fly" as with some of the beefier Makita models. Additional features include a keyless chuck and a padded rubber handle for comfort and vibration absorption. The drill and flashlight come neatly packaged in a carrying case that's compact enough to earn a permanent place in your car or truck for whenever the need arises. --Justin Paul ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Makita a name you can trust
I'm a general contractor and have owned Makita tools for a very long time. I still have the first cordless drill I ever purchased and its still working. This kit is great, up to date cordless drill with better batteries than before, holds the charge longer. The flashlight always comes in handy. I use these tools every day at work and home and wouldn't leave home without them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Oldie but goodie
We've owned several of this type of Makita 9.6v cordless for as long as 20 years and aside from a few minor glitches from time to time they're all still running fine. The NiMi batteries are an improvement over the old NiCad. Since we own several of them we've stayed with the 9.6v so we never run out of batteries as well as the fact that their performance is more than adequate for most of our needs. Considering that you can buy this whole package for nearly the price of a pair of batteries, it makes it a no brainer. I needed more batteries so I just bought another package. If you're a first time buyer of Makitas, you might want to go for the other models that allow the convenience of standing the drills upright, are slightly more compact and have a more power if you need it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Buy it for the batteries and charger
The flashlight is okay (no diffuser for the beam), but the drill is crap.I bought it to get a new charger and two new batteries. If you have a good drill/driver and need some batteries and a charger, this is a good buy.I have a twenty year old Makita drill (jacob's chuck) that is better than the one in this "anniversary edition." ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I look for a reason to use it.
I am a cabinet maker/ remodeler so I don't have to use a hammer all that often,a couple times a week at best.I find myself looking for nails to hit because I like the hammer so much. The wide claw works greatfor removing nails without doing damage to surface.

This is by far the best hammer I have ever owned, don't waste you money on another cheap hammer, if you use this tool to make your living it is worth every penny.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost Great but for a fat claw
These other reviews seem to me dead-on. I love this hammer so much that I even called Douglas to tell them in person that their 23 oz framer is great, but the claw is the worst I've ever used for almost everything. It's too fat. If the hammer had an Estwing claw, I'd bronze it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best hammer I ever owned.
From the moment I used one belonging to a friend I knew I had to have one.I had never seen one before then and it handles like a dream.I looked all over town until finally searching on the internet to find and order one. That was two years ago and I still love this tool.
The original had three thru-handle studs, but mine (and I guess all the newer ones) has two.I figure its probably a concession to the production process as its doesn't seem to make any difference.
The waffle face is great...provides enough grip on nail heads, but doesn't tear stuff up (wood and fingers) like regular waffle faces do when you miss. The side pull feature is handy and the claws work fine for me.
This is the most expensive hammer I ever bought...but I don't regret it for a second.
In life, I've decided you only have to buy the best tools once.
I may buy another and put it away some place safe just to make sure I always have one in case they stop making them again for some reason or someone steals mine. ... Read more

This ingenious add-on turns your Trimmer Plus into a blower, or, with just a few simple adjustments, into a vacuum. Its 120 mph airflow and Quick Link connection will have your lawn clean in a matter of minutes, versus a couple of hours with a rake in hand. The balance when connected is excellent; the huge, rugged tube devours leaves and debris in a flash. The bag holds an impressive amount of mulched material and even empties easily. 3-0 out of 5 stars Hard to manuver
too bulky.blower strength depends on the trimmer motor. If motor loses it's power, then there goes your blower too.

4-0 out of 5 stars I couldn't do without it!
I bought a Yardman weed wacker which is compatable with the Ryobi stuff. When I saw the Vac/Blower attachment, I thought that it was too good to be true.It has been an incredible attachment. It has cut my "landscaping" time in half and everything looks so much better. This thing even sucks up oranges that have fallen off of my tree.I don't know if that is good for it or not but it just keeps working. The blower is more than adequate and does all that I need.So far I have been very pleased with this item.I would recommend it highly!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dont be afraid to get it dirty....
Yes, it's made of plastic but so far the abuse I've subjected it to makes me wonder if it's lined with Kryptonite. I recently trimmed my boxwoods and Red Tip bushes/shrubs and after spending 30 minutes raking and picking up debris by hand, I said I wish I had a lawn vac to suck all this stuff up. Hey, I DO have a lawn vac! So....branches, leaves, twigs, etc got sucked up and placed nicely in the bag. A little grunting from the impeller blade but most of it came up aside from a few stubbon leaves. I havent tried the blower part yet but i can only imagine it works as well. ... Read more

Black & Decker CMM1000 19" Cordless Mulching/Rear Bag Lawn Mower
    by Black & Decker
Average Customer Review: 3.5 out of 5 stars
    Tools & Hardware (01 July, 2005)
    list price: $743.95 -- our price: $419.95

    Editorial Review

While mowing the lawn may never be considered a recreational activity, this rear bag mower from Black & Decker makes the chore as close to fun as it will ever get. With its 24-volt battery, which delivers 5-horsepower gas equivalent at peak torque, this cordless electric mower represents the top of Black & Decker's line of lawn mowing products. During our field tests, this orange powerhouse stood out above other mowers for ease of use and performance. Its versatile operation allowed us to mulch, bag, or expel the debris from its 19-inch cutting path. Switching between the three methods was as easy as removing the catch bag and the mulch plug--easily performed tasks when the mower is not running.

The most obvious difference between the new generation of electric mowers and the heavier gas-powered mowers of yore is the start-up. The ease with which this mower starts is almost stupefying. Simply pull and hold the thin handle lever, then pull the ignition lever, and presto!--the engine is running. To minimize safety risks to young children, a removable safety key must be inserted prior to starting the mower.

Once started, this mower runs like a dream and is much quieter than older gas-powered models. In addition to the lack of noise, vibrations were also dampened by the cushioned handgrips, a feature that makes mowing a much more comfortable experience. Another innovation is the method by which the mower is raised and lowered. Where once it was necessary to adjust each wheel individually, the height of the mowing platform is now controlled by a single squeeze of a single lever, which allows for seven positions from 1-1/2 to 3-1/2 inches. While this mower is much lighter than a gas mower, we did find that this Black & Decker cordless model, weighing in at 76 pounds, is heavier than its corded relatives.

The only disadvantage this machine seems to have is in the power department. While there were no serious problems during our field test, it was necessary to slow down or go back over thicker sections of grass in order to make a completely clean cut. This cordless model also requires a substantial charging time when first out of the box: the manufacturer suggests at least a 16-hour period initially in order to get peak performance and maximum run time. According to Black & Decker, the battery will be 70% energized with four hours of charging. When fully juiced, this mower can be expected to cut between 1/2 and 1/3 of an acre per charge. Though the charge is one aspect that needs to be considered when deciding whether to purchase a corded or a rechargeable mower, we found the added maneuverability of the cordless over the corded model far outweighs the inconvenience of charge times.

When you've finished mowing, the handles fold back, making it easier to store this mower in a tight garage or shed. It comes with a 30-day no-risk satisfaction guarantee and a manufacturer's full two-year warranty. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Loved the Mower Until the Battery Died
I have had this mower for three seasons.Like all rechargeable products, the battery has worn out.I don't mind replacing batteries - it is just a fact of life.Unfortunately, Black & Decker has chosen to charge $100 for the new battery plus a small service charge to have it put in the unit.If anyone knows a less expensive replacement let me know.

So, essentially you have to pay the purchase price of this mower over again every 8 years.By that I mean you need a new battery every 2 years - or 4 batteries in 8 years for a total of over $400.Remember, my battery died on my third year mowing a 1/3 acre lot (in Minnesota, so a short summer followed by harsh winter).By last year the battery was nearly useless - two charges was necessary to do the whole yard even with short, dry grass (read:entire weekend of mowing).

One could also think of this as buying a new mower every 4-5 years, which is silly.Older gas mowers lasted 20+ years.New ones with good motors last just as long.A mower should be a minor investment of money, time, and energy.

One additional problem was dealing with wet or long grass - this is true even with a perfect battery. It is just a fact of life that everyone has a busy month now and then and can't mow any other time than when it is either wet or after the grass has gotten too long.A good gas mower just uses more gas but can take the job. This mower can't do the job.Even if you get the mower to cut the wet or long grass for a time, you'll run out of power before you are done and need to charge the thing back up to finish the job.

Oh, and this last summer I often found myself double-cutting the grass to get a clean cut. This is because the mower just wasn't delivering the same power to the blade (yes, I did replace the blade this spring). In other words, you can't just live with the lower power given off by a dying battery.

Two additional problems that exist with even a new battery - the rear bagger is fairly useless.Of course, I hate rear baggers, especially when you don't have a self-propelled unit.Ever drag around a heavy bag of grass on a hot day?Not fun.In addition, this mower is useless on leaves with or without the bag.It doesn't have the power to mulch them into the grass or bag them if you've grown addicted to that that tactic as a way to avoid raking.

Now, having said all that, I simply loved using this mower when it worked well.It is very quiet, not at all smelly, and very easy to use.I could literally mow in dress clothes.Don't laugh - sometimes you're in a hurry.

Now, if Black & Decker would lower the cost of the battery or better yet replace it with a Li-ion battery, I'd keep using the unit.As it is, right now I'm considering buying a gas mower.

5-0 out of 5 stars Early thought - yes !
Received this recently, so I can't speak for the "long term" - but even a dummy (like me) was able to take it right out of the box and get excellent results at the start. So far at least, I definately prefer it over my old gas powered mower, every bit as powerful without the hassle.

4-0 out of 5 stars Light hungry machine
Love it.It is light, easy to use and I am saving by doing it myself as opposed to using a lawn care service. The only two things I do not like about it is that it is somewhat awkward to remove and inset the bag and the hookup for the electrical power is very small and the hold tab for the power cord is so flimsy it breaks easily, otherwise no complaints. But performance is great so far. It does the job. One handle level adjustment is a breeze. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars My Experience with Zipka
I was very excited to have my Zipka at first, for all the reasons others mention here. Then I noted, as another reviewer did, that it seemed to eat batteries faster than advertised - but I still loved it. Then it began to misbehave. It began flashing and not turning on at various times - really cut my enjoyment. But still tolerable. Then one day I had it mounted on my bike helmet and it flipped off, falling to the ground and breaking in an unfixable way. I won't buy another - if they make one that's more robust and functions consistently, I'd be delighted. I'm going to try the Princeton Tec Aurora now. Hope this helps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic For Camping And Many Other Uses!
I purchased my first Zipka as a stocking stuffer for my husband, HOPING he would use it.It gets used all the time!Taking out the trash, in the workshop, as a book light, around the house and of course Camping! My whole family has since purchased them. The battery lasts forever and its a great way to tend the fire or cook without having to set up a lantern or other light source. Its light weight and durable too.Even my small cousins have them and they work great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow- lasts forever, great product!
This light never dies due to its LED technology. It is not extremely bright but definitely bright enough for illuminating your path at night. It is great for power outages or camping.I feel much safer walking or jogging at night in my neighborhood.Light-weight, very good attachment mechanism. This product is a major improvement compared to the standard head lamp, to the point that everybody should have one.It is a perfect gift in that it is (1) reasonable price, (2) usable by anybody, (3) sufficiently different that people are unlikely to already have it, (4) truly useful/safety feature as opposed to worthless junk that is most gifts. ... Panasonic EY6432GQKW 15.6-Volt, 1/2" Cordless Hyperformance Drill with 2 NiMH Batteries

    Editorial Review

Impressively compact, lightweight, and comfortable to use, Panasonic's 15.6-volt drill/driver fits into tight spaces where other bulkier drills won't. The 3-1/2 amp NiMH batteries deliver remarkable run time per charge, which is a big plus, especially if you need a tool for continuous use. What about power? This Panasonic packs up to 390 inch-pounds of torque--as much (if not more) than anyone needs in a cordless tool. The motor's speed control allows full torque at any speed, so you can apply full torque while still maintaining control. The tool features dual speed ranges of 65 to 450 and 200 to 1,450 rpm. The 1/2-inch chuck takes bigger bits. The first thing you notice about this tool, however, is how compact it is (the chassis measures only 8-1/2 inches) and how comfortable it feels in your hand. The soft-pad grip provides extra cushion and the tool's balance is superb, two important features if you wield a cordless day in and day out. The tool lacks an onboard bit holder, but that's about all it lacks. The 3-1/2 amp batteries are ventilated, so they last longer, delivering up to 1,200 charges and recharges. This drill is a smart buy for plumbers, electricians, carpenters, and even woodworkers--in short, anyone who wants a small, compact drill that packs a lot of torque and is built to last. The package includes a 55-minute universal charger and hard-plastic carrying case. --Jon Groebner ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Unhappy with adjustable clutch
My last drill was a Makita 14.4v, and I stepped up to the Panasonic because of the great reviews, the small size and decent power, and most of all, because it uses the same battery as the metal cutting rotary saw that my company supplies...a great tool.I wish I could say the same of the drill. I am a commercial electrician and use a cordless everyday for screwing and cutting holes with "hole shooter" bits in metal framing. The Panasonic definitely has less power than my old Makita, and my biggest gripe is that the clutch setting always pops out of "drill" mode to the variabe settings for screwing. What a pain to constantly reset the thing from the top of a ladder with hands full, especially when I have the drill squeezed into a tight spot. I think if I was a carpenter and used it mainly for screwing it would be fine, but for an electrician a lockable setting on the clutch control like Makita makes is a must. Like others have said, it is also difficult to quickly re-chuck a bit on center without fumbling around with closing the chuck to just larger than the bit size before inserting the bit. For a professional dong production work, this is not a good option.

I look forward to trying a Panasonic again when they make some refinements to its design. In the mean time I am going to return this one and get another Makita or maybe try a refurbished Hitachi.

I will not wax eloquent on the many features of this fine, fine tool, for many others have done so better than I. But just holding this drill will send chills down your spine. You will feel the connection to your forbears who, with mallet and handsaw, built this mighty nation; From failing hands thay pass the torch to you, dear friend.

    Editorial Review

If you've never used a pull-saw, you're probably wondering if everything you've heard about them is true. It is, especially when you're talking about this handsaw from Shark. The ancient Japanese concept of pulling to cut gives you maximum results from minimum effort. Everything about this Shark is top-notch: the shape of the teeth, thickness, balance and the coordinated angle of the teeth, blade, handle, and blade replacement system. Because these blades cut on the pull rather than the push, the blades can be thinner, lighter and more flexible than regular saw blades, and flexibility means flush cutting. The cut is uniformly accurate, clean and easy to start, and you're left with a super-thin kerf. The blade is nice and wide, so you can fearlessly guide it with just a thumb. Something about the angle of the teeth seems to clear debris better than a standard saw, too. Add to this awesome saw the pry bar that comes with it, and you cannot beat this set. We love the bar for its ultra-sharp chiseled edge and the curve that gets you into the tightest spots. It's certainly the thinnest flat bar we've seen, great for prying off trim and molding with virtually no damage to the surrounding wall or the molding itself. We can imagine putting this to good use as a paint scraper, staple and nail puller, carpet remover, tile remover… the list goes on and on. We are impressed.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good deal
This combo is one of the best and most useful tool purchases I have ever made.Somthing you might not realize you're missing until you have it and are astonished at how often you use it.

The prybar is a bit small, but tough and very useful nonetheless.I have used it repeatedly to pry moldings and window casing loose. It has taken a beating and never let me down.

The saw is surprisingly sharp (I rarely use the rip side of the blade, the fine-cut side takes care of almost any task) and still feels like new on the tip of my thumb after many uses.

The only draw back I can think of with this saw is that it doesn't come with some kind of sheath/guard instead of the two plastic rails which serve as blade guards.A small detail, but one I would recommend the company consider.

    All-in-all, a great addition to anyone's tool kit.Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Number one cost per use tool you will own.
The saw is very accurate. With a single thumb edge on the center of the blade to keep it straight up, you can cut a perfect angle with this saw. Blade removal replacement makes it even more desireable. These are Japanese saws. The Shark company products are available in a lot of stores, so it is not a come and go product.
The thing I am really excited about is the small pry bar. I was doing a few odd jobs around the house. I removed some flaking plaster in the ceiling of one room, using the large flat although curved (fortunately) chiseling end. It did a superb job. Then I went into the kitchen and needed to replace the weatherstripping on the kitchen door. The flat part of the chisel made quick work of removing the old weatherstrip. Then the stubborn brad nails came right out using the other end with the pry-nail removal combination.
The unique thing about this tool, is that it is not anywhere near as large as the Stanley pry bar we all, or most of us use. Yet it is large enough to do the job. Makes it comfortable to keep in a belt pouch. It truly is something you will use again and again.
The price is an advantage also, if you consider the price of the individual pieces, it is quite a saving to buy them in this combo pack.
It is especially useful for someone who does trim work, but is far to useful in any number of ways, so as to recommend it too highly to any one service. Buy it, you won't be sorry. It will become one of you top favorite tools. Hope this was helpful.

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid this ripoff - Buy an LED flashlight instead
Many of you must have noticed that various manufacturers of power tools are "giving away" flashlights with cordless drills, etc.Well, this is how they make money, by charging $5 for ONE flashlight bulb! What a ripoff. In my experience, these light bulbs are cheaply manufactured and blows out in matter of weeks, not years.

I recommend that you search for "4-LED Flashlight" on Amazon.com and, for a bit more money, buy one of these LED models for which you NEVER have to replace the bulbs.

3-0 out of 5 stars let there be light
What can you say bulbs burn out. These can be hard to find so if you are buying a light you might as well pick up a couple because there is nothing worse than grabbing your light and finding out the bulb is burned out and you don't have a spare when you really need it! ... Read more

    Editorial Review

A deceptively simple-looking tool, the BoWrench is a boon for both professional deck builders and do-it-yourselfers. The BoWench gives you a fast, one-person way to straighten decking boards. This is great, because decking material--whether redwood, cedar, or another, more exotic rot-resistant wood--is often warped, especially in 14- to 16-foot lengths. To operate the BoWrench, you simply fit the tool on a joist, swing the lever arm, and release. You can either push or pull boards into alignment, and when the handle is perpendicular, the tool locks in place, holding the board securely and leaving you free to drive nails or screws. The BoWrench is better than toenailing. Burying nails in the sides of decking to close gaps works, but it gives water more ways to enter the decking, which eventually leads to rot. With the BoWrench, you'll save time, create a longer-lasting surface, and maximize material. Using the special cam attachment (sold separately), the BoWrench replaces the clumsy beater block as the best way to close gaps in tongue-and-groove plywood and paneling. --Jon Groebner ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A must for T&G ceilings
I have bought a lot of "tool toys" in my time but this one is the best. I have looked for sometime for a good pry bar when installing T&G, especially ceiling. I thought it was a little pricey but after using it I would never do a ceiling again without the Bowrench with the T&G cam attachment. Not only did it save a lot of time but I did not have to cull out a single board. Used everyone of them. I even looked for boards with big bows just to see if it would work. A simple but very good tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars This ugly duckling will make you look better than you are
No rosewood handles. No brass. No light weight alloys. Not accurate to .00001 of an inch.Three square steel tubes, two steel pins and two retaining clips....all painted Halloween orange. It's beauty is in what it does.It will let you easily install decking materials in straight lines, without straining yourself. I installed about 1,000 square feet of 5/4 X6 decking with it. It lets you use the leverage designed into the tool to position each board where you want it and to hold that position while you fasten the board. You simply can't do that by hand. It may look expensive based on the parts description I gave, but it will save you both time and money and make your finished project look much better.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most usefull tools I own....
I highly recommend the Bowrench. I just finished installing over 300 sq. ft. of tongue and groove planking on my screened porch.I can't imagine tackling an installation such as this without this simple tool.I was a little concerned on how usefull the tool would be while working on a ceiling.I've got to say, it was a breeze. I particularly liked how it would lock into position, freeing my hands to install fasteners. I just wish I had it when I was laying deck board. Also, I purchased the T&G accessory. This accessory was also very simple, yet helpful in gripping the tongue side of the planks without damaging it. Do yourself a favor and get this tool before taking on any type of decking project. ...
