3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad but a little lean in parts
I expected a little more from this book, but it wasn't bad.I liked the Georgia stuff since that's Tony's gig, but it was a little lacking on some of the other southern football "powerhouses."If you're looking for a comprehensive look at the most powerful conference in the country, try out the Tailgater's Guide to SEC Football. It's killer. In all, a nice addition to the collection.I give Barnhardt 3.75/5.00.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not enough story telling
While the information collected gives the reader a wealth of facts, I was looking for the stories and story telling Barnhart can weave.Fans love to engage in arguing about great teams and great players while sitting around the living room. This reads more like a dry text book covering southern football.

3-0 out of 5 stars A little disapointing...
`Southern Fried Football' is the definitive reference tool for fans of SEC and ACC football. The book has a comprehensive timeline, lists of the greatest Southern teams and players, and a section on coaches.

Tony Barnhart is a great writer, so I was a little disappointed to find so many lists. While the sections on rivalries and game day traditions are very readable, the list of `100 Players That Made A Difference' is not.

More than anything else, traditions are what transform Southern college football from mere sport to religion. This book will give readers a crash course in these traditions.

Defiantly a must have for SEC and ACC football fans, but Barnhart's writing skill is not well represented here. ... Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST-HAVE FOR PS1
I love this game. It is a great 2-player game with awesome graphics. Sure, you can say the graphics aren`t so good compared to today`s games, but you have to understand that this is a PS1 game made 3 years ago! This game is definately the best stadium sports game I`ve ever played!

3-0 out of 5 stars Nfl Blitz
This game was O.K. If you liked the XFL during it's short existence, this is the game for you. Here are some pros and cons.

    Pros:
Trick Plays (such as laterals, or HB throwing)
    Fun to body slam opponet
    play editor feature

    Cons:
    Graphics Iffy
    Not a big play selection
    Field Goals Impossible
    Passing Iffy
    running slow
Commentary sounds like it is from a WWF match
Have to get 30 yards for a 1st down

I say you should rent it and see what you think. Some people like Midway's arcade style games, while I prefer more lifelike games. I would have given it two stars if I didn't like sports games so much.

    Editorial Review

Sega's new NFL 2K is the type of game that makes a very, very good first impression. For starters, this is without a doubt the best-looking sport video game ever produced on any platform--hands down. Not only are the players more detailed and lifelike than in any other game we've seen, but they move fluidly and with such an impressive array of animations that it's sometimes hard to forget you're playing a game and not just watching one on TV. You can even see the breath of each player during cold-weather games--we're talking graphical realism here, make no mistake. But NFL 2K goes way beyond skin-deep. This is an excellent football game, with gameplay that's easy to pick up at novice level but hard to master as you increase the level of difficulty. The game's controls are the most intuitive of any we've seen, and the playcalling interface is simply the best that anyone has ever come up with for a football title. And just when you think it can't get any better, you discover features like the full-league fantasy draft, a tutorial mode, extensive game and season statistics, and excellent play and player creation options. Put simply, this game makes every other football game on every other platform look dated. Even the play-by-play and color commentary are better and more fluid than any we've seen elsewhere. If you have even a passing interest in football and are planning to pick up a Sega Dreamcast console, you owe it to yourself to get this game as well. It is the new standard by which all future football--and sports--games will be judged.--Michael Ryan ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Good looks, awful gameplay
Don't pay a penny for this, folks. Move on to an EA game. There is very little in the way of actual physics calculations between players in this game, every interaction is merely a scripted animation. RBs are stopped in full stride by shoestring tackles. WRs run their routes at half speed while the DBs shadow them *IN FRONT* of their routes. Offensive line programming is horrible. Guards and tackles blow assignments on EVERY play, doubling up on a DT and allowing LBs to come free and tackle the RB at the handoff. There is no player momentum, a flaw I've noticed in a number of Sega Sports games, meaning any player can stop in mid-stride and immediately run full stride in the opposite direction. Sit back and watch the computer play: 3and out, 3 and out, 3 and out... This was an incomplete game that should not have been released. So what if it looks pretty? It plays like crap.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost great.
The 2K1 version of this game is much better, if for only one reason:you can actually gain yards rushing.Just try to have a 1,000 yard season with any premier back in this (2K) version.Other than that, great graphics, good game speed, and all the bells and whistles any sports game geek can handle!

5-0 out of 5 stars for the Sega DreamCast
I thought with Playstations Madden 99 I had the only football game I'd need for years. But when my brother got the Game Cube, Playstation 2, and XBox, he gave me his Dreamcast, and a few games along with it, NFL 2K being one of them. Turns out, this is a great game. The graphics are good and game play is as good as anything on Playstation. You can force trades to create your dream team, and while you can't play a franchise, you can save your season. The passing game is a little easy, bu it makes up by making a tougher running game. And lik most of Dream Cast's sports games, it is well done and fun. Would I pick this over Madden 99? probably not, but it is a nice addition, and the two games are fun to own together. ... Read more

Weber's Go-Anywhere gas grill adds convenience to the fun of camping and tailgating. This compact unit has a surprisingly generous grilling area--large enough to fit four medium steaks. The push-button ignition system makes lighting the fire easier than ever, and the patented heat-distributing Flavorizer bar ensures that your food cooks evenly and efficiently every time.

Built-in lid hangers allow you to rest the lid on the side of the grill to create an effective barrier against the wind. 5-0 out of 5 stars 16 oz canisters are ok !
I phoned Weber Customer Service concerning the 14 oz fuel canister specification. Customer Service advised me that 16 oz canisters work just fine.

Customer Service said the 14 oz fuel canister specification is due to the "Q" grill. Weber found the heavier 16 oz fuel canister could tip over the "Q" grill. In order to avoid "confusing their customers", Weber recently changed documentation for ALL portable grills so as to specify 14 oz.

Well, let me tell you, I went thru 2 Charbroils which worked but not well. The flame from the burners came back to the inlet next to the regulator. I had had 2 Weber charcoal grills before that lasted many years. $22.00 as opposed to $50.00 seemed like a stretch but I did it. It works so well I can't believe it.I won't bore you with what Iv'e cooked on it, it works great & is well built. My next door neighbor works on million dollar yaghts. Editorial Review

The Madden series is the grandfather of NFL-licensed video games, and Madden NFL 2000 marks the 10th anniversary of this gaming franchise.Keep in mind, this is not your father's Sega Genesis game, so casual gamers will behappier playing NFL Blitz 2000. However, for the football simulation nut, thisgame delivers even more than did Madden 99.

New additions to the fine Madden 99 game include faster yet less-detailedgraphics, smoother animation, and additional onscreen treats such as goalpost nets, yardmarkers, and sidelines filled with coaches and teammates. One of the greatest newfeatures is the hot route option, enabling players to change individual receiver routes atthe line of scrimmage--it's like an audible, but doesn't require changing the entire play.More goals beyond just winning are here in the form of the Madden Challenge, givingplayers access to hidden stadiums and other goodies for successfully completing a seriesof increasingly difficult tasks, such as 30-plus yard receptions or a having a running backrush for over 100 yards in a game.

The artificial intelligence (AI) is still as slick as ever, but this game is best when playedin two-player mode. Play-by-play commentary has been expanded for this game, butremains a bit sparse. A word of warning: the arcade mode is still pretty heavy onsimulations, so only veterans or players who enjoy a steep learning curve need apply.--Jeff Young

    Pros:

    • The hot routes option adds more depth of control
    • Faster graphics keep the game moving along
    • Improved running game makes for more balance between passing and running
    Cons:
    • New player graphics are not very smooth
    • Controls and play selection are tough to learn for novice gamers

    Editorial Review

As the leaves turn to gold, so do thoughts turn from summer gamesto--you guessed it--football. Perhaps Chris Schenkel said it best: "What a wayto spend an autumn afternoon!"

ABC Sports began covering a full season of college football in 1966. Since thenmany Americans have spent autumn Saturdays gathered around the televisionlistening to Schenkel, Keith Jackson, Bob Griese, Brent Musberger, and more asthey call the play-by-play. These broadcasters--along with 25 of theircolleagues--made up a blue-ribbon panel to select the greatest college playersfrom 1966 to 1999. The result is ABC Sports College Football All TimeAll-America Team, a visually stunning, lavishly illustrated book. It openswith two chapters on the history of the game, from the afternoon at Rutgerswhere football was born to the rise, demise, and resurgence of the two-platoonsystem and the effect World War II had upon college ball (for example, 31players took the oath of enlistment into the Naval Air Corps at halftime of the1942 Cotton Bowl). Then comes the heart of the matter: their picks for theAll-America Team, first string, second string, and third string. Number one QB?John Elway. First team RBs? O.J. Simpson, Herschel Walker, and Archie Griffin.Wanna fight about it? Good--debate is welcomed.

Old-schoolers may be put off by the graphically heavy layout (the ESPNgeneration will love it), but there's plenty of substance behind the style. Thisbook is a handsome addition to the football fan's coffee table. --M.Stein ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The pictures are the only good thing.
I love Keith Jackson. He's one of the top play by play guys to ever do it if not the best. He should have looked around and done some more homework because he is wrong in a lot of places in this book.

I couldn't believe Keith kept with the media favorite Big 10 and Pac 10. Over half of the people on their three all american teams are from this confrence. The favortism is ridiculos. There are also some guys on this team because they were popular with the media. It's a shame they put a lot of guys on this team because of it.

This really is a hard book to try to right because of the favorites people have. It's also a hard book to write because of all the players and all the players from the different decades. There are no way guys from the 50's and 60's could stay with the young men who play in college football today. It's hard to make comparisons.

The pictures in the book are fantastic. It's pretty easy to find this book cheap and pick it up for the pictures alone. There are some great shots and a lot of the quotes in the book are great. They are the only thing that made me able to stomach this.

This book play favorites a lot. It's worth buying for the pictures. Don't buy it to read it. Buy it look at it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great walk down memory lane for college football fans
This book is a must-have for the die-hard college football fan.Very well laid-out, lots of good information; and something to interest anyone with an interest in college football.Lots of lists, stories, and pictures.

Younger fans will appreciate the perspective from some of the all-time great players, coaches, and broadcasters; and older fans will appreciate the historical soundness of this book.My only nit to pick with this book is that they insisted on mis-spelling ABC analyst Tim Brant's last name (it's not "Brandt")

All in all, very well done.

1-0 out of 5 stars All-Time Football Team After 1966
A listing of great football players and teams from 1966 onward is just the tip of the iceberg. The reviewers have to eliminate such greats as Red Grange, Tom Harmon, Knute Rockne, Jim Thorpe, Don Hutson, Dixie Howell, Johnny Mack Brown, Doc Blanchard, Glenn Davis, Bobby Layne, Harry Gilmer, Vaughn Mancha, Shorty McWilliams,Barney Poole and hundreds more football greats who played the game merely for the love of it.The book is fine for those who think football began in 1966, but for those of us who remember the real greats it leaves a lot to be desired. ...
