Brinkmann 805-2101-S Pitmaster Deluxe Smoke 'N Pit
    by Brinkmann
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
    Lawn & Patio
    list price: $250.00

    Editorial Review

Forged from strong materials with clear-cut mechanics and no gimmicky details, the Pitmaster Deluxe Smoke ‘N Pit from Brinkmann is a sure way to get a good old-fashioned barbecue going. The Smoke ‘N Pit features a versatile two-chamber design, functions as a grill or a smoker, and can be used with either charcoal briquettes or awood-burning fire. For smoking, the charcoal or wood burns in the offset firebox, and the smoke travels naturally up into the food chamber and out the smokestack. For grilling, you can use either the large or the small chamber, depending on food quantity and the size of your group. Both the firebox and the smoking chamber open fully for convenient access, thanks to their sturdy hinged lids and Brinkmann’s angled smokestack design.

Built for long-lasting durability, the Smoke ‘N Pit is constructed from heavy-gauge steel with tubular legs, a welded body, and arust-resistant finish. With over 750 square inches of cooking area between the two chambers, it holds 100 pounds of food and 10 pounds of fuel in the firebox. A damper on the smokestack and an adjustable firebox air vent give you precise control over heat, smoke, and circulation. The unit comes with porcelain-coated, adjustable grates that fit both chambers and are easy to clean. Brinkmann also includes sturdy, heat-resistant wooden handles, a large wooden shelf for platters and utensils, and a recipe book for smoke cooking. A metal rack below adds stability and provides a place to stash wood and briquettes. Though no featherweight at 130 pounds, the Smoke ‘N Pit pushes and turns smoothly on its heavy-duty molded plastic wheels. Detailed assembly is required. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Brinkmann Deluxe Pitmaster (805-2101-S) Smoke'N Pit
Hi Folks, I want you to know, you just can't go wrong with this Pitmaster, I can Grill on it. I can Smoke on it. My wife surprised me with it in 96' since then,I have slow cooking ribs, and the usual hotdogs and hamburger. And I have even ROTISSERIE a 12 to 14 pound Turkey on it (my own design) to do this, the shin is crispy all the way around...You just can't have a REAL Bar-B-Q without a Deluxe Pitmaster..If you really like outdoor cookin' this is the way to go....

3-0 out of 5 stars The real deal, gas grills are for wimps
I am a chef (yes real chef, Cordon Bleu trained) and a law enforcement officer.I bought my pitmaster back in 1998 and my baby is still going strong.3 things that are important when you buy this bbq smoker.

#1) CURE IT!!!!! CURE IT!!!!CURE IT.
If you wash it cure it again.

#2)When you see rust appear on its surface, purchase the rustoleum bbq black heat resistent spray paint and give it a nice coat.

#3) What will also prolong the life of the pit master is if you put the heat sheilds in it.Get yourself a small bucket for the grease drippings.

Hey B4 I 4get, do purchase the temperture gauge, it does wonders.

I bbq year round with my pit master even in the sub zero winters of Chicago. The Pitmaster is like an American made Fender Stratocaster, it can take the beating and come back for more. The only negetive thing that I would have to say about it, is that I wish that they used thicker gauged steel.HomeDepot sells a version that does have the thicker gauge steel its a different brand.Don't get me wrong I still use a Weber for some occasions, but when it comes to down home smoke'n bbq, nut'n can compare to my Pitmaster...sorry boys & girls, but if you use a gas grill you should be ashmed of yourselves, robbing yourselves of true down home flavor.I am a purist and use only char wood and mesquite or hickory in my bbq.

    Gas grilling is False!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Constant Heat Tough To Maintain
As a charcoal grill, I give this 5 stars.
As a smoker, I give it 3 stars especially for a beginner.

    Pros:
    1.The price is excellent.
    2.Mucho cooking surface.
    3.Many uses.
    4.Superior for indirect cooking techniques.

    Cons:
1.Steel is too thin to maintain a good steady low heat for smoking; fluctuates too much.Needs constant tending.
2.Air flow is not good for extended burns -- because there is no ash box (to get ashes out). The ashes will gather underneath, changing the nature of how you maintain the heat during smoking and possible quenching the fire.
3.A few welding defects allow some grease to escape from places other than the drip hole.

I recommend this for the occasional experimenter who also likes to do a lot of straight grilling.I also suggest to first buy a simple electric smoker -- they are cheap and easy to use -- as a first smoker. This is not child's play!!!!:-) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Grilling Gadget
I've moved on to a Webber Performa Grill with a gas ignition, but I still have fond memories of this product. If you're not in a position to upgrade to a gas start, this is definatly the way to go.You'll be cooking faster than you ever imagined!

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding...
I wish I had bought this item earlier. I bought the 18 1/2" grill a few months ago, and after struggling with starting it with charcoal (briquettes are just too expensive in Pakistan), I was disappointed that I could not use it more often.

I saw the starter on Amazon, read the reviews, thought it a good idea, won approval from the Home Department [read wife], and bought it. In the past 2 months, since I've had it, I have used it about seven (7) times. It is that easy to use - even with just plain charcoal.

    Highly recommended!!! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars They should not have been able to put the Weber Name on this
I was very disappointed with these products. Not well made and not user friendly.

Weber should be ashamed they put their good name on this product.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice product, bad price
I got this set a year or two ago on sale at Home Depot for a clearance price of $5.Mostly, I use the tongs because they do the work of tongs and spatula thanks to the unique mini spatula shapes. The big spatula is fine, and the fork, but the tongs are most useful, so I usually skip the other two. It's a great value at a $5 price, but there's no way I'd pay $35, especially since I use mostly one tool.If I paid that much, I'd want some extras like basting brushes or a grill rack for vegetables or fish. Shop around.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, or worth the price
While Weber is a trustworthy name in grilling, I would definitely not recommend this tool set.The set appears to be very cheaply made - the handles are entirely wood, unsupported by any stainless steel in the actual handle. The stainless steel working end did not appear to be heavy duty, and where it connects to the wooden handle will be very difficult to clean. There definitely are significantly better tools on the market for a much better price.I gave this as a gift to my husband and was very dissapointed in the quality. ... Cleaning your grill is essential because anything left on the grate will cause uneven heat when you cook. But when you've finished grilling some savory steaks, burgers, chickens, and veggies, the last thing you want to do is clean up the mess. With Weber's grill brush/scraper, it's really not so bad. This 18-inch brush/scraper has hardwood handles and brass bristles, so you won't be left with rusty residue or stubborn leftover grime. 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect gift at a great price
As a entrepenour, i decided to open a local barber shop.Back in barber school, old professor Ned would say" Some people have long hair, so make sure your brushes are long enough"I took this thought into consideration when it was time to open my shop and purchase supplies. When i saw the price, i couldn't resist. Now all paying customers get their hair comed with the classic 18" grill brush. This brush garuntees no tangles after use, and is perfect for bad hair days, just let the long bristles deal with them.I was so impressed that i bought one for my wife, and now nightly she brushes her hair 100 times with this amazing brush! if ever weber was to come out with any more hair care products im sure they would be nothing short of amazing

    5-0 out of 5 stars Can't complain! it's a great grill brush!
Before, when I went to buy a new brush I would always get the cheapies; I thought they were all the same, except some came in plastic while others came in wood or aluminum. I was wrong. You do get what you pay for when buying a grill brush, so buy this one! The bristles are stiff enough to clean up all the grit, yet soft enough to not damage your grate. The brush feels nice and sturdy, it feels well built. Also, this brush has a handy scraper on the end which is extremely handy with the really tough crusties (on your GRILL silly).

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product
Amazon's price is better than I could find in the local Mega-lo-marts, FWIW.

Nothing fancy here -- just does one job and does it well. The "scraper" portion fits perfectly on my Weber cooking grate(Charcoal -- I understand the Gas grates are larger). The brush also works very well, and the long handle helps keep your hands from become barbeque (I like to heat up the grate then brush it one last time before cooking). ... Read more

Opening the oven to check on a food's temperature means wasting the cook's time and losing oven temperature and moisture--not to mention a face full of steam. This thermometer prevents those problems. Insert the instrument's 6-inch stainless-steel probe into a roast beef or turkey and monitor the time and temperature (from 32 to 392 degrees F) on the thermometer's large digital display, which connects to the probe with a 4-foot cord. The control panel sets cooking time and temperature, and an alarm sounds when either is reached. Fully opened, the thermometer/timer is 5 inches high, but it folds flat for compact storage. Magnets on the back permit it to be temporarily mounted on a metal surface. --Fred Brack ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Very handy, not very sturdy
It's all true.A digital thermometer is an indespensible tool for the kitchen. This one works great for a while, and then starts giving erroneous results, so beware.

The digital timer feature is handy, although not very well done.It makes a raucous noise when you turn it on.And setting the time is a bit inconvenient as you can't reduce the amount of time.

Although the metal wire and probe and temperature alarm feature might make you think you can leave the probe in your food while it's cooking, DON'T.The probe will conduct heat into the middle of your food much faster than the meat will, and so the meat around the probe will get cooked and the probe will tell you (totally accurately) that the meat is done, it's only referring to the meat right next to the very hot probe. The rest of your meat is not yet cooked.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great tool, just don't get it wet
I've had this model of thermometer for a couple of years now and have really come to rely on it. I use it for everything from baking bread to deep frying french fries. It's a sturdy tool provided that you remember two things:

    1) The body of the thermometer is not heat or water proof, so be careful where you stick it.

    2) The probe is not water proof, so be careful not to submerge it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Died after a year
I loved this but I have to give it the poor review because it stopped working. It didn't get too hot or anything.Just started reading far hotter then correct temperature. ... Read more

Lined throughout, these colorful gloves protect hands and forearms from heat, oil, steam, and smoking franks. And they're comfortable, with sheepskin lining for the back of the hand and soft fleece for the palm. You won't notice the stitching on them, either, because it's tidily inside out. 5-0 out of 5 stars A most essential item for grilling/smoking
I had been using regular work gloves to load/unload my smoker. It was tricky and hazardous at best. I came upon this product while searching for grilling accessories and decided to give it a shot. They are absolutely perfect for handling anything hot for anywhere up to 2-3 minutes or so. The top of the gloves extend out and halfway up the forearm, so no more burned arm hairs! The fingers are very flexible and allow you to grip any kind of grilling tool or even handle the hot food itself without a problem. They have proven to be very durable also, as I use them at least once or twice a week

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for BBQ Smoker
I purchased these for my Smoker on recommendations of other reviewers and I do not regret having these. They are comfortable and excellent to use. I though wearing gloves would be terrible in handling not only the Smoker but the food, the tools, etc. Was I wrong! I am so glad that I finally have stopped myself from being burned .. LOL

3-0 out of 5 stars Three Complaints
These skewers do a good job of preventing food from rotating while on the grill; however, I have three complaints.

    1) Flimsy. I was expecting them to be sturdier. Each prong wiggled a bit too much for my taste. It made the food a little bit harder to put on the skewer. I guess the trade-off is that Weber wanted the skewer to be lightweight. I think Weber should have made them a little heavier to make them a bit sturdier.

    2) Rust. Make sure you handwash them. Not a huge amount of rust happens after putting them in the dishwasher---- but the rust is annoying.

    3) Dull ends. There are no points at the end of the skewer. Pointy ends would make it easier to put the food on.

Food doesn't spin, and they're lightweight. I give them 3 stars.

2-0 out of 5 stars It works but not the greatest
I bought the skewers because the price was reasonable and that it was from Weber. Unfortunately, the quality isn't what Weber used to be - dependable and long lasting. Although it claims that it's dishwasher safe, the skewers came out rusted and discolored. I suggest hand washing them. Look at other choices before buying this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Invention!
I am so tired of slippery food sliding off skewers when you try to turn them over! These double-pronged skewers really work at keeping food on the skewers, and even better, from sliding around when you try to turn them over. I must have looked pretty funny in the past trying turn shrimp over to cook on the other side while they twirled around and around the skewer, always with the cooked side down! But no more! I always hand-wash skewers anyway, so have had no rust problems. ... Read more
