1-0 out of 5 stars safety hazard !!
I recently rented this item from a rental store. It is the most awkward thing to use. You have to release the hand brake and step on the platform for the engine to tighten the drive belt which places the operator right under the load going up the roof!! Without going into detail about my experience with this machine, it is a safety hazard and an accident waiting to happen!! ... Read more

    Editorial Review

The Yard Bug may look cute, but don't get so caught up in its curvaceous lines that you neglect its enviable design and practicality. This is a strong little machine with some unusual and innovative qualities. Perch on the comfortable yellow seat and you can control the gas, brakes, and blade engager with your feet. The ignition, the throttle (tortoise to hare), the gears (forward, neutral, and reverse), and the blade height adjuster (with five choices, from low to high) are all within easy reach of your hands. Perhaps the best feature of all on the Yard Bug is the grass catcher. Lift up the seat on most lawn tractors and you find a battery. Lift up the seat of the Yard Bug and half the metal chassis lifts with it, revealing the ingenious grass catcher beneath. It's a plastic basket with a mesh top, and it lines up with the side discharger to cleanly catch all of what the Bug mows. Just lift, release the catch, empty, reseat, and you're ready to roll again. There's even a little window you can see as you ride; when the orange ball falls from view, you know the bag is full and needs to be emptied. The 8-1/2-horsepower engine is among the smallest to be found in riding mowers (though, really, it can handle most home lawn requirements), and the driver weight limit is 250 pounds. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mowing in reverse
I really like the bug except you cannot mow in reverse. How can I bypass this micro device. Please explain

4-0 out of 5 stars Great little Machine.
I received my Yard Bug in a week from the time I ordered it. The Trucking Company called me two days before delivery and I explained to them that this was a private residence and I had no way to unload it if they sent a tractor trailer or regular box truck. After hearing my situation, they sent it out on a lift-gate truck and used a palate- jack to take it from the street to my garage. I followed the instructions, put the battery on charge while I ran some errands for a couple of hours, hooked up the battery when I got home and drove it away. Put it through it's paces for about a halh hour ahd am real satisfied.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality
This "Bug" is really poor. I bought a yardman and experienced a lot of trouble: Gasline leakage, engine failed to start, etc. So it is not a best buy for your choice! ... Read more

DEWALT DW431 3" x 21" Heavy Duty Variable Speed Electronic Belt Sander
    by DeWalt
Average Customer Review: 3.5 out of 5 stars
    Tools & Hardware
    list price: $338.00
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

DeWalt's 3-by-21-inch belt sander is a popular choice with do-it-yourselfers and many professionals, as well. It has a 5.2 amp motor with electronic speed control that keeps the belt speed constant under load. The variable-speed dial is easy to use and recessed well enough to prevent unintended adjustments while working; however, it's located near the rear of the handle, making on-the-fly changes a little tricky. DeWalt mounted the dust bag on the front of the sander, and while this allows the tool to be used in tight spaces, we found that the arrangement forced us to work directly above the sander in order to maintain good visibility. As the tool heats and cools, expanding and contracting, the self-tensioning system adjusts the belt to prevent slippage. We found it to track well from one operation to the next, requiring little adjustment. This is a great sander for do-it-yourselfers and most professionals, but it's not quite as burly as the biggest 3-by-21-inch belt sanders on the market. People who intend to use a belt sander for the most strenuous tasks should consider a model with a bigger motor. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't expect too much
I am an occasional user.I've used my sander for approx 10 times. The motor burned up today.I was sanding 3 sheets of plywood with 60 grit paper, when all of a sudden it siezed up.Of couse I've had it longer than the warranty, but it should last under the conditions I use it.Will consider before buying Dewalt again. Also, the dust bag is a joke.It collects maybe 20% of your dust.

1-0 out of 5 stars belt sander
The dust colecter does not work at all. Will not pick any dust. I will not use it again. Own other DeWalt tools that are good, but this one is JUNK.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dust Bag Issue
I purchased this belt sander about 5 months ago and found that it lives up to the product claims and design with one basic flaw, the dust bag. As you can imagine, a belt sander removes material aggressively and wood dust is the obviously byproduct.

It didnt take me long to realize that none of the dust was being directed into the bag and perhaps this is due to a design flaw if in fact the designers gave this feature any thought. On the good side, you never have to empty the dust bag because it has no function since all dust is left on the work piece or shot into the air for potential breathing.

If dust collection is a concern of yours, perhaps a different model or manufacturer would better suit your need. ... Read more
