I love this grill!
I just bought this grill for my family. It's very easy to compose and easy to use. With 40,000 BTU's of cooking power and a large, 420 square inch cooking surface, this Thermos grill is a great way to start off any BBQ.
Question
I looked at the stainless gas grills and I am curious why there are no words about whether or not you can hook up these LP Grills to Natural Gas (a permanent position).I know that you can get a conversion kit but this approach is not mentioned anywhere.We use to call grills for natural gas "post grills" for permanent installations.Would appreciate an e-mail stating whether or not you can convert these LPs to NG.Thanks.
Buy it for looks don't buy it for life/performance
I purchased this grill at Kmart at a discount (under $300) about three months ago. The grill appealed to me for its partial stainless steel construction and enclosed under-body. It was easy to assemble and most parts appeared to be of solid construction. Unfortunately, problems appeared immediately after the first use. Namely, the pan designed to capture grease and other particles did not do a good job. Grease is leaking into the cabinet and onto my porch despite proper installation and grill standing on a perfect level surface. Also, the construction of the grill causes frequent and large flare-ups. Most of the flare-ups occur in the far section of the crates, where cross-ignition tubes trap dripping grease. In addition, the cooking surface temperature is highly uneven with much hotter temperatures at the far end of the crates (even when flare-ups are not causing it). On the plus side, electronic ignition system works beautifully so far.Read more

Mine served me well
I got one of these grills as a hand-me-down from my cool big brother (who graduated to a plumbed natural-gas grill).Though it had a few years on it when I got it, the char-broil served me well.It cooked smoothly and evenly, didn't consume too much gas, and was the focus of many a happy day of outdoor cooking.It finally fell prey to rust at a ripe old age.It was replaced with a Kenmore, which has never been quite so satisfying, despite being more rust-resistant. Nice, affordable grill

More minutes than you might think
We just bought this grill locally and I was lured by the promise of "assembles in minutes, no tools required."If they meant "less han an hour" then it is correct:it took me just a bit under an hour to put together.The main part of the grill - the cooking unit - is completely assembled in the box which means that the ignitor actually works.But you have to use a sometimes cryptic manual to assemble the legs, hood, and other parts of the grill.I've put a lot of furniture kits together so this wasn't too bad but the pictures are definitely lacking.Still, it didn't required any tools and once assembled, it is a really nice grill at a reasonable price.I wish it explained the "v-bar" - I assume it's some kind of device to keep the flame down or even" - but it really was doable.Just be prepared to spend some time scratching your head & you will probably have a couple of washers left over. After half a season, the plastic handle, plastic preparation surface, electronic ignition and cooking grates either weathered to the point of not being able to be used, or broke outright.Replacement parts are very hard to find. Great grill for too much money
I purchased this identical grill last year, except for the sideburner grate was different and the "whatever" caddy on the front did not come with mine.I paid [$$] for the grill( on sale ) and the tank combined.Basically it's still the very same gas grill.The Thermos boys have slapped their name plate on it also.Any Joe can put their tag on it, however, it doesn't compromise the great outdoor cookin'. great grill cooks well works great. The handle is metal and let me tell you how hot that handle gets even when on low. I have to use a pot holder to open it up and it only gets worse when cooking on high. This item needs a new handle and should be recalled.Read more

Lasted couple months
Turned into yellow in a month. Did not last thru IL winter.

Turns yellow within a week.
I bought this cover hoping it would protect my grill from the elements. Unfortunately after just three days of exposure to the sun during the summer, the entire cover turned a mildewy yellow shade. So far at least it hasn't fallen apart, but I doubt it will last a year. And it looks extremely unsightly covering the grill on my deck. If your grill isn't exposed to direct sunlight you may have better luck, but I would probably look elsewhere.

one year lifespan
Bought this as soon as I got my grill, and it barely lasted the first year. It rips easily, and I have several tears in it already. Not only that, it discolors easily as it sits outdoors. Mine is spotty and disgusting looking now, definitley won't replace it with the same model cover. As another reviewer said, it dried out and cracked pretty quickly, too. ... Read more

I give this cover 3 stars for looks, although further investigation at other web sites shows that it's a vinyl cover, and not canvas as the picture above suggests.I can't review the cover itself because I never received it.The order page says it will ship in 3 to 5 weeks.However, my mom ordered this item as a gift for me in December 2003, and it has been repeatedly delayed.I just had her cancel the order, 3.5 months after it was placed, because I was tired of waiting.I plan to go to the local grill store instead. ... Decent grill for the price
My wife purchased the Charbroil Big Easy LP grill back in 2001 and I'm still using it on a regular, weekly basis. My grill is solely the LP, not charcoal, version of the grill with three main burners and a side burner. The grill was moderately easy to assemble and came with a cast iron griddle and two warming trays. The grill heats to 650+ Fahrenheit in eight to fourteen minutes depending on ambient air temperature and wind conditions, plenty for searing meats quickly. I learned early on, though, that the three burners do not give off the same amount of heat and that there are definitive cool spots (mainly between the burners and on the sides) of the grilling area; I adjusted my grilling accordingly and find the cool spots a minor detraction from the overall performance of the grill. The middle burner runs the hottest (with almost no difference between medium and hot control knob settings) and the right burner runs the coolest. The side burner does not have much temperature control and runs either at the hottest setting or "off", probably due to a lack of windscreen to help protect the flame from Mother Nature. The only part on the grill that I think was under-engineered is the LP tank "tilt" support bracket that runs between the two wheels - I bent the support bracket within the first two months of owning the grill by rolling the grill over somewhat uneven grass in the backyard. After five years of ownership (and unfailingly covering the grill when not in use), all outside parts remain untarnished and in great condition. I just recently ordered replacements for the porcelain-coated grates (which had become pockmarked) and have noticed some minor deterioration on the burners. The Charbroil web site support page did not have a record of my Big Easy grill model #, so support from the company is non-existent in that respect. To order replacement parts, I went through third-party suppliers using my grill model # and the part numbers found in the documentation that came with the grill. I believe Charbroil no longer manufactures the Big Easy line of grills, so one can expect the availability of replacement parts to decrease over a relatively short time. Overall, I think that this 3-burner LP grill was a great purchase for the money, has some features (side burner, warming racks, cast iron griddle) found only on more expensive models, is durable, and only lacks decent support (at least for my model #) from the manufacturer.

Reliable and solid construction
I was fortunate to purchase this grill pre-assembled, so cannot comment on the ease (or lack thereof) of assembly. Once assembled this grill is solidly constructed, compact enough to fit in a corner of a patio, yet large enough in cooking area to use for entertaining and feeding groups of up to 15 people.
Very good for the price
I had a Sunbeam grill that I hated.I replaced the burners so many times, I could do it with my eyes closed.Then I needed new grates and couldn't find any that were a direct fit.I bought some adjustable grates and wired them together to make do.Finally, I had enough.I saw this Char-Broil (actually it was the previous incarnation of this model) at a Home Depot and bought it without a second thought.Knowing the experience I'd had with the Sunbeam, I also bought a spare burner.Read more

Needs protection from rain.
Product works great on patio, but it needs protection from rain. It quickly filled with water and was difficult to empty. The rain will soon rust all parts if there is no way to keep rain out or to let it drain.
