Love the grill, but the 'out of box experience' was poor
I've got a few BBQ's under my belt and my first 'rotis' and I'm very happy with the cooking performance of this grill.On the downside, one of the interior oven box brackets forming the side shelf holding assembly required drilling (enlarging the pre-drilled hole) to get it to match the bolts and the rotis bracket holding the rotis motor required a phone call to Ducane support to get a replacement.This part has two pieces riveted together and they were mounted upside down.I sent the support person (very professional/helpful!) an email picture showing my problem and was sent out a replacement part the same week.Aside from these quality control problems, everything else is good so far. ... I have wanted a Ducane for several years but never wanted to spend the money. But after getting tired of replacing the burners every year on the cheaper models I decided this year it was time to buy a serious grill that is gonna last several years, since we BBQ all year on our covered patio. Great BBQ
This is my 3rd Ducane in about 20 years. We grill 99 out of 100 dinners and love their product. This was the first one that I assembled, and while it was not a perfectly smooth job, it certainly was easier than most other kits i've dealt with.

Great Grill, Terrible Shipping Service
It's a good thing I bought a Ducane Grill, or I'd probably be a really dissatisfied customer.Ducane Grills are old school, black and traditional looking, but they offer great performance and superb reliability.The 545 I purchased replaced a smaller version that is still going strong at a vacation cabin after 15 years of use.This is the reason I bought another Ducane.They are simple, efficient designs that offer great performance for the dollar.

Ducane has produced a Quality grill and it is MADE IN THE USA to boot!
After much research I ordered the Ducane 545 based on the excellent reviews of the grill, the excellent reviews of the customer support that comes along with it, the fact that this grill is MADE IN THE USA and also because it happened to hit the price point I was looking for. The grill showed up a couple days later than I expected, but not a big deal. The grill came in about a million pieces, but the clear directions made assembly a snap. All of the parts were in the box and everything fit beautifully.It took me about 2 hours to assemble the grill (about an hour of that time I spent removing the protective adhesive coating from the stainless steel panels). If you are fairly handy and don't mind assembling things this grill is for you, if you hate to assemble things and are not handy at all you should find someone to assemble it for you. I have grilled on this grill many times now and am very impressed with the evenness of the heat at all temperatures. I have not used the rotisserie yet (other than to fire up the element for a 20 minute burn in period) but plan to do so very soon. Bottom line: I love this grill and I think you will too.

PROBLEMS OUT OF THE BOX
I purchased this Ducane grill because of the past history of the company. I figured Weber buying out Ducane would even make this a bigger no-brainer (this Ducane is replacing and old Weber gas grill that was excellent) Right out of the box there were problems. Assembly is a bit of a challenge. The instructions are OK but could be in a little greater detail. Upon assembly I found a few of the parts (even though wrapped in bubble wrap) to have little nicks, or places where there was no paint. I figured a little touch-up paint will take care of that. Then while assembling the grill a couple of brackets just didn't match up correctly with the pre-drilled holes. I called Ducane. After explaining the problem the lady in customer service(very nice) got a hold of whoever knew about this, she told me that "they" knew about the problem and would send out the correct parts. Well whatever they sent is so wrong I think my only option is to return the grill. Also the rotissiore doesn't light like it should. For what I paid I should expect and get more.

Great Grill
My old propane grill finally gave out and I decided to get a Ducane 545 in Natural Gas, I ran my gas lines and electric lines outside to a nice point in my yard, then poured a concrete grill pad for it and i'd like to say the end result was well worth the effort. I tried to get this grill locally but only a couple of places here in Louisville carried Ducane and the 545 was special order, so with that I took advantage of Amazon's 1 cent shipping and decided to buy it. It was supposed to be shipped within 24 hours but it took almost a week to get it on it's way, but once arrived my wife started assembly, and she had it 95% assembled when I finally got on the scene. It was missing a couple of bolts in parts bag, and one bracket was not drilled correectly and did not fit correctly, but I re-drilled it and it works fine but I would say for $729.01 you would expect everything to be right but such as life.. Finally assembled and hooked up to the natural gas line it fired up right away and worked and still works flawlessly.. I have grilled and even used the rotisand it performed flawlessly, I am very pleased with my grill purchase

Excellent Grill for the Money
I purchased this grill and couldn't be happier with it.My last grill was a Weber Genesis Silver and it seemed underpowered at times.This grill cooks!It is very well made of high quality parts and the fit and finish is first rate.I purchased the stainless steel base option and the base panels were protected in the box by a plastic film coating that had to be removed but it kept the panels from getting scratched in shipping.Assembly took me a little over an hour and the directions were easy to understand & follow.The hardest part was peeling the plastic film off of the stainless base panels.The grill is very solid and substantial because everything except the casters and handles are made of metal.It should last a very long time.I also like how the propane tank fits neatly out of sight in the back of the stand.For me, having only one side side shelf is a good thing because the grill does not take up as much space on my patio as many other grills.Even the $100 el-cheapo grills at the home improvement stores are wider.This grill has a smaller footprint but it has a larger cooking area than those cheapo grills.So far I have cooked steaks, butterfly pork chops, hamburgers, & grilled salmon and everything cooked excellently.I like the fact that this grill uses ceramic stones rather than "flavorizer bars" over the burners because I feel that they do a better job of adding that outdoor grilled taste when gas grilling.Just be sure to follow directions and pre-heat the grill for 15 minutes.This will give you nice sear marks on your meat and will give you a very even fire to cook over with no real hot spots.The burners seem to be very fuel effecient because I have used the grill at least 15 times and have done the 15 minute preheat and 15 minute post cooking (to burn off everything after cooking) every time.After all this cooking there is still over half a tank of propane left!The only feature this grill lacks is a thermometer.This was an easy fix as I just purchased one for less than $10 at the home improvement store and drilled a hole on the lid to install it.It looks professional and works great.

Ducane and Weber -- American Business
I believe Ducane and Weber's past business practices are a relevant consideration in deciding today whether to purchase their products.In April of 2004, Ducane filed for bankruptcy and rejected all of its"lifetime" warranty obligations.Weber purchased some of the assets of Ducane out of bankruptcy, but specifically refused to acquire the liabilities arising from the previous Ducane warranties.Previous purchasers or Ducane grills who paid extra for the lifetime warranty are, in legal parlance, screwed.If this is the sort of behaviour you want to encourage, I'm sure Ducane/Weber products will represent a fine use of your hard-earned dollars.Alternatively, if you think this behaviour is odious, you may want to consider an alternative manufacturer.

Heads up- Casters come with the GRILL HEAD
Received my base a week ago with no casters, Just received my grill head (LP model) today with the casters inside.

Ducane has filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy
If you own a Ducane gas grill and paid extra for a lifetime warranty,you lost out!You will be expected to pay for all replacement parts.Ducane assets have been taken by Webber grill company.It's American business at its worst.Local distributers who sold you the Ducane will not honor the warranty that you paid extra money for.They made their money from the initial sale.Ducane has no honor as far as I am concerned.If you already own a high price Ducane,call your dealer and find out what I just discovered.Any good lawyers out there to protect us? ...
