If you want to kill some serious bugs don't skimp
This thing is the mother of all bug zappers, this is not a toy.Don't buy one of those cheaper 1/2 acre models, if you want to kill some bugs then just do it and quit screwing around.I bought this mainly to kill European Hornets (they look like yellowjackets except they are huge and are active at night, they are attracted to light and they would pop at my windows all night).They do sting and it hurts worse than any bee or wasp ever has.The first night I used this thing is was like a bloodbath.Over 20 dead European hornets in one night.To put it in perspective, it took a whole can of Raid to kill two, yes two of these things.They will not die, Raid just pissed them off and they would fly away!The second night it killed over 30 hornets.Every two weeks another batch of workers is born and they are completely wiped out in 2 days with this thing.I don't have a bee suit so I am not about to go looking for their nest unless they are still here next year.If they are then I'll spring for the full body armour bee suit.

After purchasing two "Stinger" 40 and 80 models from Lowe's and Walmart....and returning them(the wires were too far apart to kill mosquitos), welooked extensively online. We read so many favorable reviews about the Flowtron BK that I searched the Houston Tx area but could find none.Found the 80D at Amazon.com for $10.off, tax free, and free freight.The rest is history.We love that zapping sound that reassures us the unit is working.We NEVER heard 1 zap from the "Stinger".I think those units must just kill large bugs.We have the swamp mosquites and live with a bayou at the bottom of our property....two acres. ... Does what it's supposed to do
There are two ways to measure the quality of an insect zapper. First, how powerful is it light? That will determine from how far away insects will be attracted. Second, how powerful are its "shocks"? That will, of course, determine what happens to the hapless critters. The Flowtron BK-40D performs both of these admirably.
Noisey and Kills squirrels.
I purchased this item a few weeks ago to mainly kill fly's. It seemed that this wasn't happening as there were fly's still around and no evidence of fly's being killed. At night there would be a lot of flying bugs getting zapped though the noise would make you jump every time. It scared my Labrador Retriever to the extent she would not go outside after dark. The final straw happened when a young squirrel laid dead underneath it with no marks on it at all, I could only figure that it had got zapped. I finally switched it off and hung-up some zip lock bags with water inside, now there are no fly's and no interference with the ecology of our garden. ... Read more

Leaves only, please
The unit was easy to assemble.It is a bit on the noisy side, as other reviewers have mentioned.Also, it is sometimes hard to get stable on a slightly slanted yard.If you are serious about doing leaf shredding, then you'll want to set the machine on top of a tarp and move it around the tarp as the piles of shredded leaves mound up under the machine.
I like that.
This is the best leaf shredder out there, It do the job very well.Is it noise yes but what isn't, the only problem I have if you want to call it a problem is the little stick this is mix in with the leaves's,but you have to remember it is a leaf shredder noting else. As Tony the Tiger would say "It Work Great".

Pleasantly suprised
I found the Flowtron to be relatively easy to assemble. My experience with assembly is an electric lawnmower and assorted kid's toys. There have been many kid's toys that are significantly more difficult to assemble. I found it on the noisy side; however, my electric blower is noisier. I had no trouble with our oak and maple leaves. Does produce a good bit of dust, but my leaves have been sitting around for several months. The product met my expectations. ... Read more

This product does not work
I know there are many people who've posted excellent reviews of this product, and that's what I based my decision to purchase on.However, I have a fairly small yard and no matter where I placed the bug zapper, we were still swarmed by mosquitoes.The zapper did seem to attract a lot of moths and beetles, but those weren't the bugs we were trying to get rid of.I would strongly not recommend this product.

Kills the wrong bugs!!!!
What a waste of money.This type of device has been proven to kill the wrong bugs!!It does not attract mosquitos or black flies or gnats or no-see-ums.Only the bugs that eat them.Consumerreports had show this evidence conclusively.

It scares the dogs
I bought this for out on the patio, where the dogs sleep, to try and kill the bugs but its so noisy when it's zapping the insects that the dogs are scared to stay up on the porch while its running. When a large insect gets in there it can make a loud zap for a long while.

Works so far
Caught hundreds of mosquitos in one night, looks like moths are in there too. Maybe they are after the light inside?
It works!! But Only for a short time!!!!
I purchase my unit a little less than one year ago and now I am shopping for a different brand.It worked fine for the first summer season in Texas, but now that it is spring almost summer--it does not turn on at all.I have completed all of the manual's troubleshooting in addition to purchasing a new bulb and cable for it.But, it does not work anymore after only 1 summer usage!I do not recommend!!!

Waste of money!
I live in a small studio apartment - one room - that is plagued by a single mosquito that tends to bite me in my sleep.I've been trying this useless "bug zapper" for almost two months and it hasn't killed a single bug!!!I'm so frustrated!

Works Great!
I don't know why the Bug Zapper hasn't worked for other people.I have many small moths in my home that were driving me crazy.At first I didn't think the Bug Zapper was working as I didn't see any moths.However, after shaking the Zapper over a paper towel I couldn't believe how many dead moths fell out.I also like the nightlight aspect of the Bug Zapper.The blue light is unobtrusive but casts just enough light in the dark.Great product!

Needs UV LEDs instead of green LEDs
I bought one of these and noticed that the green LEDs didn't attract any insects.So I replaced them with five real UV LEDs and now it works quite well.It's not too hard to replace them if you know how to do a little soldering (make sure it's not plugged in!).UV LEDs are available on Ebay. ... This listing for over $143 for a single bulb has to be a misprint,this is ten times what I paid last year.
