Once you use a charcoal BBQ you will never want to go back to gas grillng again.Gas grilling cannot compare with the taste of chicken, beef, pork, or other meats when they are cooked with chacoal.Charcoal barbecuing takes a little longer (you have to give the coals a while to heat up) but the wait is totally worth it.People like gas because it is more efficient, less messy, an much quicker.It is true that charcoal babecuing does not offer these advanages.But the taste of charcoal barbecuing makes it all worth it. I Agree--The Best Charcoal Grill on the Market
The Lodge charcoal grill was the answer to my outdoor cooking needs. With nearly all its parts made of cast iron, this grill is made to last. It's easy to put together, and if properly cared for (don't leave it out in the rain!), will grill your steaks, chicken, fish or veggies for years to come. Its two-position grilling surface (just turn it over) is big enough for two or three people; there's a sliding draft door near the base, and a flip-down door on the side that can be opened to redistribute the charcoal. The Lodge Sportsman's Grill is easy to clean; like any cast iron cookware, the grilling surface should be scrubbed and re-seasoned on a fairly regular basis, but this is a small price to pay for such a fine product. This is one of the best purchases that I've made in some time.

Best little grill you'll ever own
I hesitated on buying this grill for 2 years and sure wish I'd bought it sooner.It is worth every penny and then some.Nothing cooks quite like cast iron, with its incredible ability to hold heat it sears and adds flavor to meat like no wimpy wire grill can.Since it's preseasoned, it cleans up like a dream as well.Maintenance is a piece of cake too, a little oil now and then will keep it in great shape through most weather.
really holds the heat!
I've used this grill 3 times now and so far I'm pretty happy.My only gripe is that the drill holes to attach the bowl to the bottom were not properly machined (this always seems to happen to me when I buy things that require even minimal assembly).They left a nubbin of cast iron clinging to one of the holes so it was difficult to force the screw through the partially obstructed hole.Once I got past that minor irritation and got the base attached, the grill performs fine.Definitely do spray the grill with cooking spray (not over the fire, however!) or meat will stick, even though the grill is seasoned.

Little Smokey Joe
Great grill cooks quickly and evenly.There is a slightly larger unit that can be used for indirect cooking, but this one works just fine for steaks, hamburgers and the like. This is my third Smokey Joe and I will buy another when this one gets ratty enough.

great little grill
This is a great little grill that Ibought for my girlfriend who lives in a small condo. Great for two people and when you put the lid back on and close the vents the charcoal goes out very fast and cools down so you can bring it back inside. Try this with the weber charcoal chimmney for quick grill meals and easy clean-up.

A good value for the price but design needs improvement
A good value but the design needs improvement.By not having vents at the bottom, I feel the grill does not get hot enough.The side vents are good but bottom vents would result in better convection and a hotter grill.Not fun to clean as you need to pick up the whole unit and turn it upside down.Quality is excellent as usual from Weber.In any case I still recommend highly.

Kettle Wonder
I guess I've always wanted a Weber Kettle grill.They started the grilling revolution, right?I have used it several times and have cooked a variety of items; New York strips, Filets, grilled vegetables, beer-can chicken, salmon steaks.

Except for the fact that the item turned out to be slightly difficult to put together.I would have like to have seen written directions instead of just picture diagrams.It is a sturdy product that is built to last and function well.

The grill is a good one and the the gage in the handle is a very nice feature.I was disappointed with the anchor system for the work surface.Be careful not to try to lift the grill by the work surface as this will break the surface.

This is a great little grill.....Used it at a local park for a Father's Day BBQ Potluck.It was very easy to assemble (took maybe 5 minutes). Lightweight (easy to transport to/from my car).Coals stayed hot in it for quite some time (our BBQ lasted about 4 hours). Easy to clean. I would suggest it as a purchase.I purchased 2 of them (it was perfect for the 20 people who participated in the BBQ).

Excellent entry-level charcoal grill
This is my first charcoal grill and I will say, I bought it because of Weber's reputation for so many years as THE best charcoal grill. As mentioned, it isn't very big for indirect cooking. I cook for just my wife and me and it's fine but too small for cooking for guests. If I could do it over again, I'd buy the 22 1/2" grill because of it's larger cooking area and ability to add the rotisserie attachment. I'm not a big rotisserie guy but the extention is needed to cook Beer Can Chicken, something I have always loved to cook on gas grills.

The heat is on!
It's everything I wanted in a charcoal BBQ, although next time I'd probably splurge for the 22-inch model.

I am no pro at grilling, but this grill makes it all so easy!It was easy to put together, easy to use, and easy to clean up.Everything I toss on it turns about perfectly grilled and absolutely yummy!There are cheaper charcoal grills out there, but if you're a petite woman, like me, who doesn't grill for a living, it is well worth the extra money for the little conveniences of this grill.I got the 18 1/2 inch grill, and it has plenty of room for preparing dinner for 4-6 adults.Since putting my grill together, I have cooked out every weekend.

a little smaller than I thought
I was really hoping for a larger grill but I should have read the measurements! After reading the directions, you have to put a foil drip pan in the bottom and surround this with your coals...then if you are cooking something that needs a longer cooking time, you have to keep adding coals..I don't get how you would do this if you have a grill full of HOT food..seems a little inconvenient to me.It will be okay for a few burgers and dogs but I think I'll invest in a larger grill next time.

Good for what it is
It's a very durable grill that should last years, if not decades.At this size, it's strictly a grill -- you won't offset-cook on this.
Excellent & Fast Way to Grill Food
This is my second Smokey Joe: The first one (about 11 years old) really only needed the charcoal grate so I figured I'd get a new grate and pass that one on to one of my children and have a new one for me. Although it's relatively small in size, I've done 7 BIG burgers or 5-6 chicken breast-quarters with smoked sausage at one time. And it doesn't require a big amount of charcoal to do the job. Not what I expected
The Cobb Grill is not at all what I expected. Food does take a long time to cook. I've made hamburgers several times on the grill and they have turned out dry each time. I tried cooking the burgers with water in the well, and the burgers still turned out dry. I also cooked three steaks on the grill, and the steaks tasted ok (not great),but they turned gray and they grill did not sear the outside. The directions included with the grill are confusing. In the cookbook there is a note which says never to add briquettes after you have started the grill, and then a page or two later a recipe says to add briquettes if the fire has burned down some. One users guide says never use more than 6 briquettes while the other says you need 8-10 briquettes. It is lightweight, and easy to move around, and does stay cool to the touch. If I had to do it over again I would not purchases this grill.

Great little camping grill
This is a nice little portable grill. We bought it because it is advertised as being thoroughly insulated and portable...and it is both.
Works great! Very happy with the product.
With all the wild claims you see from manufacturers, I was more than a little skeptical about the claims of quality and efficiency. After using it twice, I am pleasantly surprised that the grill met all the claims. I used 9 pieces of charcoal, the inexpensive Wal-Mart brand and cooked for over 3 hours. I have made a whole chicken and whole rack of pork ribs with potatoes, onions, peppers in the flavor well. My early impression is that it's suited more for slow cooking/smoking than hot grilling. I think I will still use my regular charcoal grill for steaks and the likes but Cobb is great for slow cooking. My only complain is that it's hard to get the meat dripping out of the flavor well after the cooking is done. Since the ashes stay in the center of the flavor well, it's impossible to pour the dripping without getting ashes along with it.

My previous Meco, after 10-12 years of being out in the weather and never being covered, gave up the ghost with rusted through legs.
My Holy Grail grill
When my 20 year-old Meco grill was stolen, I was a little disappointed.I remembered what a pain it was to assemble, and I wasn't looking forward to doing it again with a new one.I went to the local discount store to get a replacement and all I found was a selection of kettle grills and other non-adjustable models.On to the next store - same story.For the next several weeks, I visited every retailer in Denver and was horrified to discover that a suitable replacement grill was not to be had!

For the past 5 years, I have been using a George Forman indoor grill.I never liked the taste of the food cooked on his grill - so I started a search for another brand.My sister has the BG-16 DeLonghi Grill and recommended it highly.I saw that a newer model had been released but did not get the positive reviews that the BG-16 got.So, I purchased it and am thrilled with its results.It is easy and quick to clean, has a large cooking surface and the food tastes great.It is definitely a "MUST have" for anyone interested in grilling!

Whatta grill!
I was in the hardware store today and I saw the regular Weber 22 inch kettle. How did I ever cook anything on that tiny little thing? This grill's huge cooking space gives you plenty of room for indirect cooking. It's impossible to sear steaks then move them off the heat in a small grill unless you're doing one or two. With this one, you've got acres of space -- my culinary success rate went way up with this one. Best giant Charcoal grill I've seen
I have a family of 7 with a few extra around a lot of the time. Grilling used to be a step by step process which usually meant I ate after everyone else because I was still cooking when most were eating. We like to do meat and vegetables on the grill and with this grill I can do it all at once and sit down with the family and enjoy! You can build your fire off center and spin the grate to move one item off and another item over the flame. You can also build small fires on two sides and put meat in the middle and smoke anything. Easy to control vents allow you to regulate the heat and burn time of the coals. Also it doesn't use a bag of cahrcoal at a time as you might think. You can use one Weber Chimney Starter (which I also recommend)full to cook most items. The grate is TOP quality. I used to go through a grate a year on my old Weber Kettle. This grate is beefy and I think must be finished better. No rust at all after two years. The only thing that keeps me from rating this 5 stars is dealing with ashes. You have to remove both grates (and the cooking grate is a handful)and shovel ashes out. The bottom has three vents that are not made for ash removal. At least you can cook a ton before ashes become a problem. It is expensive and a load but I would do it again in a heartbeat if a tornado came and blew it away. That is about the only thing I can think of that would keep this thing from lasting for 20 years or more.

This is the title of Chris Schlesinger's new book. This book also has been an inspiration and recommedation for me to purchase this grill. I can cook anything on this baby. I have the room to do pizza perfectly and much easier. I have grilled 7 bone in Rib steaks on a multi level fire with delicious results using natural lump charcoal and a nice Oak log. Don't buy a Dutch Oven without one
I made the big mistake of getting a Dutch Oven and not ordering this at the same time.Pliers don't work, gloves don't work, a fireplace poker doesn't work.The lid lifter makes removing the lid to check on your food a simple, stable and ash-free process.Don't make the same mistake I did.When you buy your Dutch Oven, buy the lid lifter.

One more gadget but worth it.
They could give away dutch ovens if everyone would promise to buy all the accessories.At first I made do with a hooked piece of wire but after dropping ashes in the pot and almost burning myself a few times I got the lid lifter.It's actually quite useful.

Worth the wait!
I ordered this item in hopes that it would arrive by the holidays - not so, but it made a splendid Valentine's day gift. This grill is so cool - versatile, easy to use and easy to clean. Light and portable. We LOVE it and it always garners compliments.

Incredible Cooker
I bought this unit over three months ago and have used it exclusively since.I am not kidding, I have cooked on nothing else but the PK - it is that good.The menu has included whole chickens, chicken breasts, chicken thighs, beef roasts, pork roasts, planked salmon, steaks, chops, brats, dogs, ribs and burgers.Everything has been perfect.Nothing else cooks like it.The genius of its design is that when it is closed (as is intended) the PK cannot support a flame.While the internal temperature remains hot enough to sear anything, meat will not burn from flare-ups.And, while the unit is closed, smoke - produced from the meat itself, wood chips or chunks, and/or your choice of charcoal - bathes your dish with wonderful aroma that you and your guests will truly enjoy.
Best charcoal grill ever!
Well worth the money. I love this grill, however, there are times when a gas grill is nice. Since the shelf under the grill is removable, Iput it on the top of the grill surface itself (with the lid open) and then put my Weber Baby Q Grill on the shelf. I got an adaptor for a large LP tank and wallah....I now have a great charcoal grill that easily "converts" into a great little gas grill using no more of precious deck/porch space. BTW...the Baby Q is an awesome grill. I love it, too. See jpg
More fun to cook!
When I was young my Dad had one of these grills and taught me how to grill on it.It was one of the originals, and it lasted until the grills rotted through and the wheels rotted out.He still used it for a number of years, limping along with make-shift equipment.But then I found this cooker and bought one.Then I bought another for my weekend place.Then I bought one for Dad with replacement grills, thinking he could store them for the inevitable replacement job...instead he resurected the original cooker.Now he has one at his home and one at his weekend place.I rarely talk to him without he mentioning the gift and how much it meant to him!I have even convinced my girlfriend and all of my Cajun friends that this is the ONLY way to grill.Buy one.It can last more than 30 years, with abuse and grill replacement.If you take care of one...I have no idea how long one could last....!!!
