This smoker works great. I've smoked chicken, potatoes, homemade pastrami(yum) and even some cheap salami lunchmeat. It really adds wonderful flavor to anything and is so easy to do. Clean up isn't the easiest but is still worth it. I give it an A+.

I purchased this item recently after having a couple of "other brand" cheap bullet smokers in the last few years. Those other smokers had a hard time with temperature control and would require constant attention. Which over an 8+ hour cooking cycle would become tiring and old.

smoker cover
I was very disapointed with the smoker cover.It is made of a very THIN plastic that is simular to a medium guage garbage bag material.This type of cover needs to be able to be resistant to some heat, weather, and also some general scratching.Just taking the cover off requires real tender care or you will get a quick split in it.The company needs if necessary to charge more for the cover and make it more durable.Sincerely yours,Allen Vest III

Great the first two times but after that...
I loved this smoker the first two times I used it but after the third it stopped working as well and by the fifth it didn't work at all.After examining all the parts, I noticed that the thermostat had burned up around the contact points.It was under warranty so they sent me a new thermostat but I was forced to pay the shipping!I used it once and examined the new thermostat and it had already started to burn around one contact point after just one use.I think I'll go back to my charcoal grill.

Great product, but add a metal stem thermometer for best results....
I've used my smoker for 7 years now and I have nothing but great things to say about it. One recomendation is to drill a small hole in the top and insert a metal stem thermometer (about $7) for accurate monitoring of the smoking. You'll get the best results when you can hold the temps at the desired levels. It also comes in handy for checking internal temps of the meat.
Finally Figured it out
Keeping this smoker up to temperature had been a chore until I invested in a heavy duty 25 foot extension cord. I bought a 12 gage15 amp 25 foot chord and I'm now actually using the thermostat to back off the temperature.

The smoker is very usefull , but it come to me, deformed, the cilynder was not a cylinder, the top cap, was deformed too, but thegreater disapointment was: it hasent the hole to join de electric thermostat and the heater. i need to use a drill, an many tools to open the hole. I only thougt that the price to back the smoker, the shipping cost from and to venezuela and the time....were too high , then i proceed to the mechanical operations.

Pass this one by
When I opened the box the smoker and lids were bent with no damage to the box itself. While attempting to assemble the base, I realized they had not cut out the rectangular hole for the heating element. I looked in the manual and was pleased to see a 24/7 customer support number. Wrong! they are only open 8-5. I called "customer support" the next day and explained the situation. I asked if they could send me out a replacement base. She refused to do that saying I had to ship the entire thing back to Amazon and get a replacement from them. This company does not stand behind their product and obviously has no quality control. They printed "Made In America" on the box. Have you no pride? You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Not functional as is.
I purchased this smoker a year ago, to start cooking out some ribs for a family gathering. I had a long time ago the electric version of this cooker, and since getting into charcoal with my grill -- thought that I might as well go Charcoal with the smoker as well (Charcoal + Wood is a heck of a lot of fun for me).

I was really impressed on how fast the order was received. The smoker was in excellent condition. The only negative thing I experienced was that this was a 2002 model and on the Char-Broil website, I could no longer select information for the model. But I'm happy with the unit and have been enjoying the smoked meats.

This is my first smoker. I purchased before reading the reviews. I thought I was going to have problems. I assembled it according to directions and started using it. I have had it for 2 months and have used it at least twice a week. It works great. The only thing is if you are doing something large that takes awhile you will have to keep an eye on the charcoal. Ignore all the bad press, this is great
I use this BBQ with Mesquite lump charcoal and have grilled excellent steaks, and smoked some pork ribs, a chicken, a London Broil and a giant hamburger so far.No marinade, just a dry rub and on the grill.The book included has accurate cook times as long as you keep the temperature needle on the "i" in Ideal for as much of the cook time as possible, which is not hard to do.Make sure to "cure" it before you use it.This burns off all the smells and chemicals that are in it from the manufacturing. Cure it using the propane burner. Easy to assemble too.

No instructions or customer service
The smoker is great.I bought this because my boss has the same model and has smoked mouth-watering whole chickens.
Great Idea, a bit inconvenient...overall not bad for the price!
I just put mine together and it warns that you mustn't keep the gas connected and that each time you reattach the gas you have to do a soap test.I guess I can keep screwing the propane tank on and off, but that's such a pain and the soapy water is messy!

after searching many stores and websites i found the brinkmann smoker on amazon for a great price.the smoker was delivered timely and undamaged...not to mention how easy it is to cook with.

Good addition... still want the Smokey Mt.
I got my first Weber (Genesis B) and had to get the smoker and try 'er out.Kinda wishing I saved my money and just got the smokey mt though... here is why:
must be a better way
first off let me say, i love weber. this smoker is a kit that contains a small box and a replacement grate. both pieces are enameled and the smoker box has a stainless steel lid. very easy to install and use but not really very useful. i fired mine up using hickory and prepared it to the manufacturers specs, (pre-heat on high until it smokes) and then adjusted my grill for low-and-slow indirect cooking. it barely smoked at all, certainly nothing like adding those chips to a charcoal grill and they stopped smoking after about 35 minutes at which point i needed to stir them to get them going again. that's just not going to work if you're trying to smoke a brisket for 6+ hours. save your money, if you want to smoke something get the smokey mountain cooker/smoker by weber.

Good for the money.Needs better packaging
I've used this as a grill and a smoker so far.It's okay as a grill. It works great as a charcoal smoker.I did a rack of spare ribs and they turned out tender with great flavor. Best ribs I've ever made.The only complaint is in how it arrived.The smoker body came out of the box slightly flattened on the sides even though there was no visible damage on the box. I used a rubber mallet to tap the body back into a circular shape before assembly, and everything fit together after that. If Amazon or Meco beefed up the box for shipping I would have no complaints. Just bought our second one
We've used the basic model Meco for over 8 years and are finally replacing it with this new stainless steel one.They're simple to set up and make it a breeze to cook a great main dish for a dinner party, just put it on and forget about it, and it's nearly impossible to overcook the food.Our only complaint about our last one is that the interior paint started to peel after a number of years and a lot of use, and eventually started to rust as a result.Not appetizing!We expect that buying the stainless steel version will prevent that problem in the future, and recommend spending the extra money for this stainless steel version.
